In Texas, water has been and still is a lifeline for residents. The San Antonio waterway was once used to supply water to the missions, specifically The Alamo. Due to massive flooding in 1921, plans were made to transform the area into an urban park, and in the late 1960s, plans were made to develop what it is today. By the late 1990s, the San Antonio River Walk was expanded to include more of the downtown area. Today, River Walk spans 15 miles of restaurants, shops, bars, and entertainment.
